"On Friday Appalachian Power, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, filed two separate requests with the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

The first filing asks permission to increase the company's base rate, which would raise customer costs by an average of 23.9 percent or $207.9 million a year. If approved, a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours a month would pay $88.01, up from the current bill of $71.48.

The company is asking for a final decision in the matter within 150 days to avoid the implementation of interim rates.

The proposed increases would take effect this fall or winter."

Of course it would take place this fall/winter. Just in time for the busy heating season where everybody goes broke trying to pay their power bill. Are they taking a page from ODP now?

The price of fuel goes up, so does the power bill. Kinda wonder, power company has to ask if they can raise their price, but the oil companies are also in the energy market and they just roll the numbers on the pump, daily. Seems if you would regulate one group, you should regulate the other as well.

Pay attention. When power rates go up that much, I get a raise. I thought it odd that a power company has to "ask" for an increase and the oil companies aren't regulated.
